Did you know?
Black Women experience disproportionate health disparities compared to other racial and ethnic groups. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Black women make up 13% of the female population, but account for 58% of new HIV diagnoses among women. CDC also reports Black women as more likely to die from breast cancer, cervical cancer, and pregnancy-related complications. Oftentimes, the stories of Black women’s health and wellness go unheard or are silenced. At BWLI, we are dedicated to amplifying Black women’s voices, stories, and health experiences to create sustainable, systemic change.

Sleep is a priority, not a luxury
Sleep Affects every organ in the body
Sleep affects every organ system in the body. During sleep, the brain consolidates memories, supports learning, regulates emotions, restores neurotransmitters, clears waste products, and prepares us for the next day. Deep sleep restores the body while REM sleep supports memory and emotional processing. Poor sleep contributes to chronic stress, brain fog, depression, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, weakened immunity, and reduced quality of life.
What do we do?
CHIA’s Sleep Health Institute translates the latest sleep science into practical, culturally responsive education that empowers individuals, families, healthcare professionals, employers, and communities to understand the essential role sleep plays in achieving lifelong health.
